Signs it's time

Is your machine asking for help?

Shots run slow or sour

Scale and old coffee oils restrict flow and throw off temperature.

Water leaks around the portafilter

A hardened group gasket no longer seals. It's a cheap part and a quick fix.

Weak or sputtering steam

Milk residue and mineral buildup clog the steam wand tip.

The descale light won't go away

You've meant to deal with it for months. We'll handle it, start to finish.

The Full Tune-Up

Why Chicago machines scale up

Lake Michigan water is moderately hard, and homes on well water often have much harder water. We test yours and set the machine to match.

FAQ

Good questions.

How long does a visit take?

A Basic Refresh takes about an hour. A Full Tune-Up on a Breville takes 60–90 minutes. Premium machines can take a little longer.

Do I need to be home?

Yes, or have someone there to let us in. We'll show you what we found and pull the first shot together.

Will this void my warranty?

No. We only do cleaning and user-replaceable parts on machines under warranty, and we never open the housing.

How often should I get a tune-up?

Every 6 months for most homes, or more often with hard or well water or if you make several drinks a day.

What if my machine needs a real repair?

We'll stop, explain what we found, and point you to a trusted repair shop. You only pay for work we actually did.

What if the problem comes back?

If the same issue returns within 30 days of your service, we'll come back and fix it for free.

Should I keep my beans in the hopper?

Leave them in. We'll set them aside while cleaning the grinder and put them back afterward.
